Spider-Man is the number one kids costume of 2026, about 4.6 million children in the NRF survey. Spider-Man: Brand New Day landed in theatres this summer and every second kid on your street will be in red and blue.

That is fine. It is a great costume. Just get one they can see out of.

Kids

  1. 1

    Spider-Man costume (kids)

    $CostumeKids

Number one kids costume in the US this year, boosted by Brand New Day.

Check before buying: Mask eye openings. Some licensed masks are hard to see through after dark.

  2. 2

    Miles Morales costume (kids)

    $CostumeKids

Black-and-red Miles is the second-most requested Spidey suit.

Check before buying: Muscle padding vs flat suit. Padded is warmer.

Classic or Miles? Classic if they want to be “Spider-Man”. Miles if they want to be different from the three other Spider-Men in class.

Toddlers

Skip the full face mask. Toddler versions with a hood or no mask are the ones they keep on.

  1. 3

    Spider-Man costume (toddler)

    $CostumeToddler

Toddler cuts skip the full face mask. Good idea.

Check before buying: Diaper access. Yes, it matters.

Adults

A bodysuit with a separate mask, so you can drink at the party. Zip at the back is more accurate, zip at the front is easier.

  1. 4

    Spider-Man suit (adult)

    $$CostumeMenAdults

Bodysuit with separate mask lets you eat and drink at a party.

Check before buying: Zipper placement and whether the mask is separate.

Add-ons

  1. 5

    Web shooter toy

    $PropKids

Turns the costume into something to play with, not just wear.

Check before buying: String vs foam projectiles. String is messier than it looks.

Mask tips

  • Eye mesh is hard to see through at night. Try it in a dark room before Halloween.
  • A half mask or face paint is safer for trick-or-treating.
  • Bring the mask in a bag. They will want it off after twenty minutes.

No suit in their size? A red hoodie and a black marker do a surprisingly good job: more in homemade costumes.

Want another superhero? Batman is in the kids list. Family of heroes? Group costumes.

Make it yourself

Homemade versions from the closet, the kitchen and the recycling bin. No sewing machine needed.

1

Marker-web red hoodie

40 min ~$0

You need

  • A red hoodie or red top
  • Black fabric marker or permanent marker
  • Chalk
  • Blue leggings or jeans
  • A sheet of card

Steps

  1. Slip the card inside the hoodie so the marker does not bleed through.
  2. Chalk a dot in the centre of the chest and draw straight lines out from it like bicycle spokes.
  3. Join the spokes with curved lines that dip toward the centre.
  4. Go over the chalk in black marker and add a simple spider shape in the middle.

Tip: Use an old hoodie: fabric marker is permanent, which is the point.

2

Face-paint web mask

20 min ~$3

You need

  • Red face paint
  • Black eyeliner pencil
  • White face paint or a white eyeliner
  • A make-up sponge

Steps

  1. Patch test the paint on the inner arm the day before.
  2. Sponge red over the whole face, avoiding the eyelids.
  3. Draw two large teardrop eye shapes in white with a thick black outline.
  4. Draw lines from the nose outward across the face, then join them with curves.

Tip: Better than a full mask for trick-or-treating: they can see, breathe and eat.

3

Yarn web shooter

10 min ~$0

You need

  • An empty toilet-roll tube
  • Red and black paint or tape
  • White yarn or string
  • Tape

Steps

  1. Cut the tube open lengthwise so it wraps around a wrist.
  2. Paint or tape it red and black.
  3. Tape a 60 cm length of white yarn inside, coiled so it flicks out.
  4. Slip it on the wrist under the hoodie cuff.
